Nursing Team
This team are part of the Same Day Team with the Registrars and Duty Doctor – they can diagnose minor, acute and chronic disease / illness, order investigations, provide appropriate treatment for patients including prescribing medications and make referrals to other agencies where required (including hospital referrals). They also undertake physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests.

Our Practice Nurses, supported by our Health Care Assistants are available by appointment, this can be pre-booked, to help with a wide range of health promotions and disease management to include Asthma, Diabetes, family planning, hypertension, good health in the elderly, cervical smears, breast checks, and blood tests. They also assist the doctors with Minor Surgery Clinics including joint injections, ECG’s, immunisations to include travel and baby, dressing wounds and offering advice on minor injuries and ailments.

Phlebotomists take a range of blood tests for the Clinicians and ensure these are correctly labelled and sent to the hospital for analysis. They will also take heights and blood pressures if required.

The receptionists are the first point of contact for patients and visitors to the surgery. They arrange appointments, help patients and visitors with general advice, and provide support to all the clinical members of the practice team.

Admin / secretarial deal with all the typing within the surgery. Processing incoming and outgoing post. Co-ordinating requests for medical reports from insurance companies and solicitors. Inputting information into the practice’s computer system. Co-ordinating the movement of patients notes and other forms, as well as information between the surgery and the Integrated Care Board. Auditing practice performance against predefined targets. Dealing with registrations to the surgery, requests for repeat prescriptions and providing patients with the results of clinical tests.

District Nurses
District Nurses work closely with the doctors and practice nurses. They visit patients at home, play a particularly important role in the care of patients who are seriously or terminally ill, deal with dressings, injections, the removal of stitches after operations in hospital and run clinic sessions.
Out of Hospital Team
This team includes community matrons, occupational health, physiotherapy and falls prevention etc. Should you require assistance by this team, your GP will refer you to them and they will organise care that suits you and your circumstances. This team will keep your GP up to date with your progress throughout your care.
Health Visitors
Our health visitors provide advice to all members of the family about healthcare matters. They run a weekly baby clinic in the Kirkley Children’s Centre and together with the GP, monitor the growth and development of young children by a series of examinations.
